This is the home of ‘DOUBLE VISION The RAW FILES’: A website and online series that chronicles the visual works and vlogs created by John and Jamie Milkovich. These videos highlight our visual expressions, document our world including behind the scene banter and challenges from our side of the lens. ‘The RAW FILES’ will show you how we operate, our creative styles, our travel, our pursuits and those anecdotal moments between us as brothers.
Currently home is Vancouver Canada, we’re originally from small town Stoney Creek in Ontario. The initial plan for moving to BC was to find a career in film production but we arrived in the midst of change; the democratization of online video content and distribution. This change was altering the point of entry and outdated conventions used by the industry, this transition dashed the career we were in search of.
Today, online video production is now more affordable above all the control creatives have over their content is to their advantage and benefit. We create video content and photographs that embody our vision with the hope of inspiring our audience. The RAW FILES is the means to visualize the journey we’re on and we invite you to join us and share in the adventure.
When I was a young kid growing up my main interest was drawing. I was constantly sketching my favourite superheros, cars, trucks, tanks, animals whatever I wanted, it’s what lead me to cameras.
My brother and I have always been intrigued by the visual artistry of cinema and photography but we thought it was out of our league. Instead of pursuing the formal route to such a career we simply went after it on our own terms to where we are today, as a creatives in the art.
My first camera was a 4 megapixel Canon PowerShot purchased in 2004 for a trip to Europe. Since then I’ve backpacked through Cuba, South East Asia and Europe never without a camera in hand.
When I compose an image whether it’s a photograph or a video frame my intent is to awaken an emotion, to create a pause and reflect reaction from the viewer. ‘A picture should tell a story or grant us a fantasy’; this what I strive to achieve in all my compositions.
Together with my brother Jamie Milkovich, we are the Co-Owners, Photographers and Creative Directors of Double Vision Photography – our business. As a kid I clearly remember my imagination awakening when I’d stare into a great photograph, the same profound effect would happen when watching a great movie. I’d try to emulate pictures by drawing, with a movie usually action, I would act out scenes with my GI Joes or Transformer toy collections.
A great photograph or movie for me has the capacity to make an impression by granting us the ability to escape and dream. That’s why I was drawn to the visual artistry of cinema and photography, it allowed me to escape and dream.
I got my start as a liaison for Film and TV Producer Colleen Hardwick in Vancouver. I had a drive to make it in the film industry I dedicated all my free time: breaks and after work to learning everything I could about film production. My education and skills were not developed from a school but honed from years of hands on experience and absorbing all that was thrown at me from my mentors.
Together with my brother John Milkovich, we are the Co-Owners, Photographers and Creative Directors of Double Vision Photography – our business.
